WELLWOOD FARMS |
Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats |
Updated 12/10/08 |
Wellwood Farms is located in central Ohio, in a small community called West Mansfield. We are located between Marysville and Kenton Ohio. My husband and I run the small farm that includes Nigerian Dwarf Dairy Goats, Birmingham Roller Pigeons, 2 Great Pyreness, several farm cats, a house cat and a few Chihuahua's. We started our goat farm in July of 2005, we started with a few - actually 5 pygmy goats. In December I met another neighbor who was raising Nigerian Dwarf goats, I went home and started researching Nigerian Dwarfs. A few days later she called to say that her doe had kidded and wanted to know if I was interested. I took one look and fell in love with them. We sold our Pygmy's and started raising Nigerians. They are very gentle and loving animals, each with their own personality. As we begin to breed and raise our own herd, we are striving to raise goats that are healthy, correct in confirmation, even temperament and that will do well in the show ring and in the milk pail. The whole herd was tested in the fall of 2006 for CAE - all tests came back negative. It has been an adventure since we started raising Nigerians. We have survived our first kidding season and found good homes for those we decided to sell. I have learned how to make cheese, fudge and ice cream with the milk that we produced - another adventure - I learned how to milk a goat. We still have a lot to learn about raising and maintaining goats - it is a never ending fun filled adventure. Thanks to the many new friends that we have made throughout the goat community and all of the helpful information that they have given us. |
